All about Flooring Transitions

An idea of a perfect home means continuous flooring from one room to another, from hallway to the kitchen, so on and so forth. Every bit of the house should be well decorated with care and panache. An impromptu engineered Oak flooring sale has been gaining steady momentum in the recent past. However, in practicality, this picture may need some alteration. A Brazilian may look great in the living area; however, the bathroom must transition to porcelain due to moisture issues. This is when transition strips come to the rescue.

What is Flooring Transition?

They are floor pieces that are thin and elongated; they are fixed between rooms or even used to differentiate the designer solid wood flooring types between two rooms. They are often used when two floorings merge but have different heights. It can be used between two rooms even though they may have the same flooring material, considering the possibilities of expansion and contraction.

What are the types of Flooring Transitions?

Moldings are available in 4 types which help in handling floor transitions successfully:

§  T-Bar– These type of transitions are used to bridge two level flooring materials like

carpet to carpet, non-carpet to non-carpet, vinyl to vinyl, and even hardwood to hardwood.

§  Carpet Transition- These strips are used for carpet to carpet transition along with other type of transitions as well. The primary use of this strip comes to the fore when the carpet to the molding with the use of tacks.

§  Surface Reducer Strips- In case of uneven or different flooring materials, these strips are considered to be the best. From tiles and laminated hardwood flooring to vinyl and hardwood, surface reducer strips can do wonders for the flooring.

§  End Molding- This strip is best used to obtain a neater look. They possess an ‘L-shape’ design which goes well with many flooring materials. It is usually used if the flooring brushes against stairs, doors etc.

Flooring transition is all about getting the color coordination right between the different rooms. Playing around with the designs and the quality of the floors can go a long way in helping reduce the pressure on the floors.
