How to protect hardwood floors from water?

Hardwood floors might be one of the strongest flooring options in the market, but nevertheless, they fail to stand a chance against water, which proves to be one of their biggest enemies. 
While major floods would need you to call in the experts, even small spills and humidity can play their part in wreaking havoc on your floors. 
In order to protect your floors from water destruction, here are a few things you can do: 
1)    Deal with spills/urine accidents immediately: The moment you see a water spill of any sort, you should immediately step into action and wipe off the spill with a dry cloth. Further, avoid leaving any wet clothes, footwear or any other type of wet things on the solid oak flooring or engineered oak flooring. 
2)    Protect from outside humidity: Summer months bring with them high levels of moisture and humidity. High levels of moisture and humidity can spoil your hardwood flooring. In order to avoid such conditions, buy a dehumidifier for your house to remove the excess moisture from the immediate environment. For those wet, rainy seasons, it’s advisable to place rugs in front of your outside doors, so that visitors don’t bring wet feet inside onto the hardwood flooring. 
3)    Check your plumbing: If you have an endless water spillage, and are not really sure where the water is coming from, it’s best to call in the experts and have them look at your plumbing. Instead of fighting a no-win battle, you should place yourself in a better position to fight the water problems. If wooden floors are exposed to water for long periods of time, chances are you might end up in a disastrous situation, which will permanently damage your wooden floors. 
4)    Supplement with large fans: If the water damages are beyond control, you need to bring in the large fans. Use these fans to quickly dry up the water, so that the wooden floors are exposed to water damager for lesser periods of time. Simply put, the lesser the exposure to standing water, the better would be the condition of your hardwood floors. This would be highly advisable in areas which get frequent floods. 
Certain steps would always need to be taken to ensure that appropriate action is taken to avoid water damages to hardwood flooring. The idea is to avoid any kind of redressal problems in the future, by taking the necessary precautions, as and when possible.
