Discussing the health benefits of hardwood flooring

Hardwood flooring is one of the best flooring types in the market. After all, what another kind of flooring lasts for generations, does not go out of style, and matches every décor in the house/office? Of course, solid wood planks and engineered oak flooring, amongst other flooring options.

When it comes to the health benefits of hardwood flooring, there is more than what meets the eye. For one, wood flooring has a direct impact on the indoor air quality, which means you get better breathing air than compared with other flooring options.

Improved air quality

Unfortunately, allergens exist everywhere around us. While some are common outdoor allergens, like pollen and mold spores, there are a few indoor allergens like dust mites and animal dander, which are present everywhere.

Incidentally, while outdoor allergens are hard to control, there are ways to minimise the indoor ones. These common triggers are air borne, which often accumulate indoors. They are omnipresent on clothes, hair, furniture and even hardwood floors.

Since hardwood floors are carbon-neutral products, they reduce carbon dioxide in the air. Even if hardwood floors are manufactured, they still continue to store carbon, which makes them a great addition to your household interiors. Instead of installing carpets and other types of flooring, wise buyers are beginning to invest in hardwood flooring.

Low VOC finishes and adhesives

VOCs, commonly known as volatile organic compounds, are gases which are extremely harmful to humans. Some of the negative effects include problems to the eyes, nose and throat irritation along with headaches, loss of coordination and even nausea.

Hardwood flooring is proven to be low in VOC finishes and adhesives. When hardwood flooring is compared to carpets, vinyl, and linoleum flooring types, the former is found to possess minimal amounts of VOCs. While hardwood flooring will not prevent you from acquiring adverse illnesses altogether, the chances of contracting asthma and other breathing ailments are reduced drastically.

Bid adieu to dust and bacterial microbes

Researchers believe that young children can develop their immune systems when they are exposed to microbes in the outdoors. However, over exposure to these microbes can be counterproductive and lead to a direct impact on the health of their young ones. Thankfully, hardwood flooring does not collect dust and bacteria like some of their immediate flooring options, which makes them an instant hit with homeowners. A healthy house is a first and foremost thing in every home owner’s mind.
