Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Floors

Spring cleaning is one of the most refreshing activities during the spring season. Winters can be a little harsh on your solid oak flooring and even engineered oak flooring. In order to keep your floors up and running, it is time to indulge in some spring cleaning for your floors.

Here are some spring cleaning tips that can help you spruce up your floors, without having to endure endless issues.

  1. A clean sweep is all it takes: Sweeping your floors is the first important step in the spring cleaning process. Hardwood floors are often prone to dust, and grime accumulation, which can make your hardwood floors feel like sandpaper. So sweeping the floors is just the first step in making your spring cleaning a success story.
  2. Vacuum the floors: While carpeted floors can look beautiful with a dose of vacuuming, even solid hardwood oak flooring and engineered oak flooring can do well with vacuuming. Vacuuming can help remove dust, pet dander, debris, mold spores, amongst other things. Most of the times, debris and other unwanted dust particles can accumulate between the nooks and crannies of the floorboards, which is not a very good situation for any house owner. However, it’s advisable to use a powerful vacuum cleaner, so that everything is swept away immediately.
  3. Mopping is the trick: Large spills can be extremely dangerous for your hardwood floors. For this very reason, it is important to use the right cleaners to remove the dirt from your floors, without harming them. Hardwood floors usually come with guarantees from their manufacturers. However, if you use the wrong type of cleaners, this guarantee can be null and void; check with your manufacturers before installation, to avoid any unwanted hassles later on.
  4. Remember water is your floor’s enemy: Hardwood floors and water don’t go together. Use a soft cloth to mop the floor lightly, and avoid throwing water directly on the floor. You can also use a spray bottle on the floor so that you avoid any excess water spillage on your hardwood floors.
  5. Finding the right type of floor cleaner: Hardwood floors are excessively sensitive; they deserve special care to ensure their sheen and glow remains intact always. Wooden flooring needs to be cleaned with wooden cleaners only, which are specially designed to work on such type of floors only. Don’t use tile or vinyl cleaners, as they will only harm your flooring, and make matters worse for your solid oak flooring.

Dealing with pet stains: Dark spots, pet stains and scuff marks are a sore view for the eyes. So what can one do to clean such marks? It’s quite simple; you can use a no. 000 steel wool along with floor wax to get rid of the spot. If the spot remains, use a concoction of bleach or vinegar, rub it over the dark spot, let it stay for an hour, and then wipe it with a damp cloth. It should definitely lighten the spot, and help you get rid of the stains.
